APPRENTICESHIPS
"Inspiring the next generation of Creators, Directors and Performers"
At Black Box Drama School, we offer an apprenticeship programme for pupils who consistently demonstrate excellence, maturity, and leadership. The role is designed to stretch pupils who have the potential to be not just exceptional performers but also inspiring creators, collaborators, and leaders. This opportunity is not offered routinely; it is reserved for those who stand out not only through their talent but through their ability to elevate the work of those around them.
The apprenticeship includes a full, free place on the course and, in some cases, may develop into a paid position. We may also offer the LAMDA Acting qualification, to stretch and challenge the apprentice further, supporting their growth as a confident and skilled performer. In order to be considered for an apprenticeship, pupils must demonstrate the following across each phase of the course:

CREATIVITY IN THE GAME PHASE
(AUTUMN TERM)
This term is all about character and story creation - pupils are expected to build complex, believable characters through improvisation and take an active role in shaping the narrative of the play. The ability to adapt, and collaborate with others during improvised gameplay is essential. Apprenticeship candidates will be those who take creative risks, remain consistently in role, and drive the story forward with clarity and purpose.

LEADERSHIP IN REHEARSALS
(SPRING TERM)
As we begin rehearsals for the scripted play, apprenticeship candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills. This means setting a positive example in rehearsals, supporting peers, and showing maturity in how they give and work with direction. The candidate will consistently assist the director, offering creative input, helping to shape the performance, and maintaining a high standard of professionalism throughout the process. This phase is about learning to lead - being generous, kind, reliable, and constructive.
PROFESSIONALISM IN PERFORMANCE
(SUMMER TERM)
The final term is focused on bringing the work to life on stage. Candidates being considered for the apprenticeship must demonstrate a calm, focused and professional attitude in the lead-up to the performance. This includes punctuality, performance preparation, professionalism backstage, and supporting younger or less experienced pupils if needed. On stage, they are expected to deliver a confident, polished and compelling performance, demonstrating control, stagecraft, and emotional connection. Apprentices will stand out through their consistency, reliability, and ability to deliver high levels of performance work.
The apprenticeship is a role that comes with many responsibilities. We are looking for pupils who inspire others through their work ethic, creativity and commitment. Those selected will be seen as role models within the group and will be offered additional opportunities to develop their skills and deepen their understanding of theatre as both an art form and a discipline. If we believe a pupil is ready for this opportunity, they will be approached during the year and invited to take on this inspiring and rewarding role.
