CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

"Unique immersive experiences that transform into a professional play."

AUTUMN TERM

IMMERSIVE CREATION

In the first term, our unique 'Role That Dice' system of teaching is employed as pupils create their own characters, explore an original world and create their own original story.

The pupils begin by selecting a genre, setting and time-period for their story. The pupils, now referred to as players, create a character to navigate the immersive world of their play. The teacher, now referred to as Gamesmaster, creates the world and the rest of the characters within that world. Led by their Gamesmaster, the players work together, navigating the world, its locations and its many colourful characters. The players make choices, solve puzzles and roll dice, unlocking the mystery of their story further. Through these experiences the players are encouraged to explore, progress and take ownership over their characters, story and play.

Towards the end of this term a play script is written by the Gamesmaster in collaboration with the players. This play script becomes the production focus for the Spring and Summer terms.

SPRING TERM

REHEARSE & DIRECT

In the second term, production of the scripted play begins.

The players are cast into roles as sessions become performance based, focusing on traditional theatre practices such as character, voice, staging, performing and directing. These sessions help pupils develop a strong understanding of performance and stage skills.

SUMMER TERM

PERFORM & REFLECT

In the third and final term, the players perform their scripted play to a live audience.

The experience of live performances is essential in developing the understanding, confidence and presentation of young actors and directors. On completion of the final performances, the players spend the final sessions of term in reflection of their work.
